What is a travel consolidator?

Also called: air consolidator · consolidator

Definition

A travel consolidator is a wholesaler that buys large volumes of airline seats or hotel rooms at discounted rates and resells them to travel agencies, typically through a B2B portal. Consolidators give smaller agencies access to fares, ticketing and credit they could not get on their own.

How agencies use consolidators

A small agency without its own airline ticketing authority books through a consolidator’s portal, receives net fares and issues tickets under the consolidator’s accreditation. The consolidator earns a margin and provides credit and support.

Example

A neighbourhood agency in Kochi books Gulf flights for migrant workers through a consolidator’s B2B portal and pays fortnightly against its credit limit.
