What a DMC does
- Contracts hotels, transport, guides and venues in the destination.
- Builds itineraries and quotes for overseas agents and operators.
- Operates the trip on the ground: arrivals, transfers, tours, emergencies.
- Handles groups and MICE — meetings, incentives, conferences and events.
How DMCs earn
A DMC buys services at contracted net rates and sells them to its partners at a marked-up price, either as individual services or as a packaged itinerary. Margins depend on contracting strength, quoting speed and operational efficiency — which is why software that speeds up quoting and reduces operational errors matters so much to DMCs.
Example
A UK tour operator sells a 10-day Rajasthan tour. A DMC in Jaipur provides the hotels, car and driver, guides and palace dinners, and runs the tour on the ground.

Is a DMC the same as a tour operator?
Not quite. A tour operator designs and sells packages, often to travellers in its own market. A DMC delivers services in its destination, usually to tour operators and agencies from other countries. Many companies do both.
