The codes side by side
- EP — European Plan: room only, no meals. Also "RO" (room only).
- CP — Continental Plan: room and breakfast. Also "BB" (bed and breakfast).
- MAP — Modified American Plan: room, breakfast and one main meal, usually dinner. Also "HB" (half board).
- AP — American Plan: room and three meals. Also "FB" (full board).
- AI — All Inclusive: meals plus drinks, and often snacks and some activities.
Why meal plans matter in booking systems
The same room can be sold on several meal plans at different prices, and every supplier labels them differently — "BB", "Bed & Breakfast", "CP" and "Breakfast included" can all mean the same thing. Booking engines have to normalise these labels, or travellers cannot compare like with like and agents risk booking the wrong board basis.
Example
A hotel in Goa offers its deluxe room at three prices: EP for room only, CP with breakfast, and MAP with breakfast and dinner. A travel agent quoting a family with young children picks MAP so evening meals are already covered.
