What is MICE?

Also called: meetings incentives conferences exhibitions · MICE tourism · MICE travel

Definition

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (or Events) — the segment of travel organised for business groups rather than individual leisure travellers. MICE trips involve large groups, venues, delegate management, and tight schedules, and are usually delivered by specialised agencies and DMCs.

What makes MICE different

  • Groups of tens to thousands, with rooming lists and delegate registration.
  • Venues, audio-visual, catering and event production alongside travel.
  • Fixed dates and budgets set by a corporate client.
  • Detailed costing per delegate and per element, and strict reconciliation.

Example

A pharmaceutical company sends 400 top sales staff on a four-day incentive trip to Dubai. A DMC handles flights coordination, hotel blocks, transfers, a gala dinner and a desert excursion.
